I received my PhD form Lund University in 1990, and I was post-doc in 1990 at the Max-Planck Institute für Festkörperforschung in Stuttgart. I returned to Lund for an assistant professorship, and was appointed Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Stockholm University in 1995. In 2010 I moved back to Lund.


My main research interest is structural chemistry, particularly incommensurate systems. Most of my projects revolve around intermetallics as these tend to be particularly susceptible to aperiodic phenomena. Synthetic work on intermetallics usually involves high temperature reaction in conventional furnaces or by induction or electrical arc heating. To produce fully ordered samples long time annealing may be important. Some complex intermetallics are promising thermoelectric, having the ability to directly convert a thermal gradient into electricity. This is an area of special interest to me.
